The pristine Cherry wood comes from a tree of the Rose family, originating in the region between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea. In Roman mythology the Cherry tree comes under the dominion of the goddess Venus. It symbolizes sensuality and is used in incense to attract or strengthen love. Cherry wood also aligns itself with the earth and can acts as a grounding tool.
Cherry wood is a temperate hardwood and has excellent acoustical properties, making it one of the most preferred woods for Native American style flute makers. Its sound is clear and pristine, but also soft and round at the same time.
Aesthetically it has a deep fleshy and tannish color and a rich, exquisite grain pattern. Cherry is renowned among woodworkers and furniture makers for its color and aging process. It starts out light pink and darkens over time to a rich reddish hue with a lustrous patina.
