Native American flutes are commonly tuned to play one single scale, most often the Minor pentatonic. Prana flutes have professional concert tuning, meaning they will play the Minor pentatonic scale perfectly in tune, extended with a chromatic scale. On top of the basic pentatonic tuning Prana flutes will play an additional seven notes, for a total of twelve notes (chroma = twelve in Greek) per octave.
These additional notes are obtained by cross-finger combinations so you can play numerous different scales, each with a unique feeling. Some of the possibilities are:
Minor pentatonic scale
Major diatonic scale
Arabian (Hijaz) scale
Blues scale
Aeolian scale
Miyako Bushi
Spanish Gypsy
Dorian scale
